The Elephant in the Room

Bravo to Ellen for bringing up "the big elephant in the room" - gay marriage - with John McCain. McCain obviously didn't want anything to do with it. But Ellen took "it" there, and hopefully showed how ridiculous his stance is to her viewing audience.

Is it just me, or is Ellen getting more political these days?

G-Bomb

Last week's 30 Rock incorporated "the gay bomb" in its plot brilliantly! (The gay bomb is some real shizz that was investigated by our military/government awhile back.)

I highly suggest watching the complete episode of 30 Rock's season finale! It's one of the best episodes! Matthew Broderick is so good in it.

Aw ... It's a Gay Wedding

Remember when it was just totally verboten to see gay people on TV, let alone any remote possibility of gay-on-gay physical affection?

I totally heart all these TV shows going "there". It really warms my heart. I swear to god, Brothers and Sisters stars folks in a J.Crew catalog. I love it, and I love the overt gay narrative wedding arc in the show ... *sigh*

A Message from Hillary

Last night's SNL intro actually made me laugh. I loved how it really pointed out all the pink elephants in the room! Now really - why can't the media be this forthright?!? (I especially liked point #2).

Otherwise, most of last night's SNL was a bore.

Yummy

I'd watch Grey's Anatomy more if there was more man-on-man action, especially like the kind in the clip above. Those two are hot.

Worship Me Bitches

Ugly Betty: Episode 2.15, Burning Questions (Preview #1) (Source)

I still love this kid. Christian Siriano (the hot tranny mess from Season 4 of Project Runway) makes an appearance on this week's Ugly Betty. He's totally milking it for all its worth, and I totally approve. He's fantastic!

Summer Flip Out

I'm so happy this Bravo is bringing back one of my fave shows, Flipping Out this summer. I absolutely love Jeff Lewis and all his obsessive craziness! I can't wait.

Double Lives Bollywood Style

Tracey Ullman - State of the Union, Indian Viagra (Source)

My sincerest apologies for my lack of recent posts. Like most of you, I lead a double life of sorts. This life has taken me away from Seattle to Chicago for the past few days. The change of scenery was much needed, but like most trips that take me outside of Seattle, I find myself pitting my new environs against the Emerald City - I ultimately fall homesick. You get my point. Chicago really didn't do much for me. It's too busy, too touristy, too much honking of car horns, too many cars, too many building (though I do love the skyline, which is perhaps the best part of the city) - there's just too many "too many-s". I actually don't get back to Seattle for a few more days; currently I'm waiting for my melatonin to kick in before I call it a night. I'm with my partner-in-crime, Mark, in Ann Arbor (weirdness to be back), and all is oddly the same as when I left a few years ago. Change is slow in the Midwest.

I caught the funny show Tracy Ullman's State of the Union tonight - I don't get cable back at home, so I'm like a moth to a flame right now and have been plopped in front of Mark's TV for most of the evening. I absolutely fell in love with Tracy's skit in which she plays Padma Perkish, the Indian pharmacist/Bollywood star! I've embedded two of Padma's acts in this post. Funny, funny - and brilliant!

Even though I'm in the heart of flatness, I'll be attempting to be productive tomorrow and onward. So hopefully the lags will stop.

Here's to double-lives! xoxo. jan

Walt

Walt Whitman, around 1862 (Source)

The American Experience on PBS showed a fantastic documentary about Walt Whitman tonight that completely moved me. It made me realize that I need to get myself a copy of Leaves of Grass for my summer reading list. You will be able to watch the complete episode in its entirety online starting April 15. The documentary did a fantastic job with the (homo)erotics of his poetry. His eyes draw you in, don't they? I highly recommend the documentary!

One of my favorite poems by Whitman:

To a Stranger

PASSING stranger! you do not know how longingly I look upon you,
You must be he I was seeking, or she I was seeking, (it comes to me, as of a dream,)
I have somewhere surely lived a life of joy with you,
All is recall’d as we flit by each other, fluid, affectionate, chaste, matured,
You grew up with me, were a boy with me, or a girl with me, 5
I ate with you, and slept with you—your body has become not yours only, nor left my body mine only,
You give me the pleasure of your eyes, face, flesh, as we pass—you take of my beard, breast, hands, in return,
I am not to speak to you—I am to think of you when I sit alone, or wake at night alone,
I am to wait—I do not doubt I am to meet you again,
I am to see to it that I do not lose you.

Just Kidding

Judy Grimes - Travel Writer (Source)

I was really disappointed with SNL's latest episode. Snooze! Kristin Wiig's sketches were the only ones that really made me chuckle, but even her sketches were more dullsville than usual. The one above made me laugh a little, but then it kinda got repetitive. I hope she gets to do more of her excited Sue sketch - like why not have Sue pee in her pants or something?

Hilary On Gay Rights

Hilary Makes An Important Statement on Gay Rights (Source)

I caught the whole interview with Ellen this morning. While I'm not switching teams (I'm still for Obama), I hope that Obama was listening to Hilary's position on gay rights.

Surprise Party

It's getting rarer and rarer for me to laugh at the skits on SNL, but this one called "Surprise Party," completely had me guffawing throughout the whole skit. I absolutely love Kristen Wiig. In my opinion, she's the funniest person on the show at the moment.

Feirce Has Expired

Christian Siriano on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

I love this kid - Christian Siriano, winner of Season 4 on Project Runway. He was on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson the other night. This is a great interview! Christian hasn't "expired" ... yet.

Happy Sweater Day!

Mister Rogers' Neighborhood Episode 1468 Opening (Source)

Today will inevitably turn into one of my favorite unofficial holidays. It would've been Mister Roger's 80th b-day today. Remember the cat on the show who spoke with "Meows?" I miss that puppet. Anyway, I'll take a sweater day any day. I'm a sweater whore ... I am. We have a twofer today. It's also Spring! (Actually it's a trifecta for me: Happy Birthday, Mark!)

Come and take a look at my sweater collection sometime. (Is that the best pick-up line or what?)

Enjoy the day.

Kathy Griffin Is Going Straight to Hell!

Kathy Griffin vs. Bill Donahue (Source)

Kathy Griffin Emmy Speech Standup (part 2) (Source)

I effin' love Kathy Griffin. I've been trying to catch her latest Bravo special Straight to Hell on YouTube. (I don't own cable! Boo on me). Anywho - YouTubers have been so kind to post a few of the best moments from the show. I really love her bit on Larry Craig! LOVE IT! It's in the bottom clip. You must catch Kathy live - Mark and I saw her in Detroit and loved every minute of it! Enjoy!

Incognito

Someone Buy Me a Ticket to a Cruise! (Source: me)
To my fives-of-tens of readers, I apologize for being such a bad blogger. October is proving to be busier than I had expected. With the class that I teach, my writing and other projects, I'm finding very little time to blog let alone be a quasi-normal person. I'm hoping things transition back to something a bit more stable soon. I really do blame the Seattle weather of late for my lameness. Winter is basically here, and it arrived without any warning. For those who know what Seattle winters are like, you know how demoralizing it can be sometimes (can weather be demoralizing?) - it doesn't help that there wasn't much of a transition to the gray, cold, weather. My sleeping patterns are whack, and so are my moods of late (I might be suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder). On my very little spare time, I've been obsessing with the fantastic TV show House on FOX. How did I miss three seasons of this? My partner-in-crime Mark has raved about this show, which obviously has had no impact on me for so long. I now see why he loves the show! It's so good! Dr. House is so effin' twisted and busted and wrong, what's not to like?!? I love the show. Check it out.

I will be heading to Philly tomorrow night to attend a conference. This is a much needed break from Seattle - and sadly, I'm almost looking forward to the humidity peeps in the East Coast are getting (I really abhor humidity). I will be there through the weekend! Woot woot!

Spramp Preview: Episode 6 of Flipping Out (The Finale!)

I'm finally back in full-on work mode. My visitors are gone (I'm sad) and am realizing how quiet my home is. My friends and I had a fantastic time getting into trouble all-over Seattle - I was getting into trouble mostly - but more about our adventures later. I do have a zillion and one things to get to, so here's a post-crazy long weekend post. Continuing with the craziness theme, I leave you with Episode 6 of my fave show Flipping Out, which airs tonight at 10E/9C on Bravo. It's the finale, which is weird (didn't it just start?). Oh well. I hope it gets renewed! There aren't that many OCD-proned control freaks/spramps to identify with on TV - go figure?
