Bravo to Ellen for bringing up "the big elephant in the room" - gay marriage - with John McCain. McCain obviously didn't want anything to do with it. But Ellen took "it" there, and hopefully showed how ridiculous his stance is to her viewing audience.
Is it just me, or is Ellen getting more political these days?

Unite!

Partners-In-Crime
Ours is not a perfect relationship, and heck, we're probably as innocuous and boring as most straight couples, but we're probably in it for the long-haul. My long-time partner-in-crime, Mark, and I are big fans of having options and civil rights, so it comes as great news that things-are-a-changing in this country of ours, namely the overturn of the ban on same-sex marriages in California. It's a great day to be gay! Yes, we can!
A big thank you to all the amazing people that fought and struggled to get the ban overturned!

Over and Out: Robert Rauschenberg

Jasper Johns (l) and Robert Rauschenberg (r)
Woke up to the news that Robert Rauschenberg had passed away at the age of 82. He and Jasper Johns were my postwar modernist idols back in the day - they still are, to some extent.
Robert is survived by his son, Christopher, and his companion, Darryl.

G-Bomb
Last week's 30 Rock incorporated "the gay bomb" in its plot brilliantly! (The gay bomb is some real shizz that was investigated by our military/government awhile back.)
I highly suggest watching the complete episode of 30 Rock's season finale! It's one of the best episodes! Matthew Broderick is so good in it.

MacGruber: Father and Son
Normally I really kinda hate this skit. But last night's MacGruber skits on SNL made me chuckle. You'll see why, I hope.

Yummy
I'd watch Grey's Anatomy more if there was more man-on-man action, especially like the kind in the clip above. Those two are hot.

More Naked Ruggers ... Sigh

Keywords: Austrian, Rugby, Strip, Lithuania (Source)
What happens when the Austrian national rugby team loses a match against the Lithuanian team? Why they strip and sing, of course!
Note to self: watch more rugby. Too bad the video isn't in high-def. (The leader of the pack is pretty cute - from what I can see of him.)
View the entire nude sing-a-long here. (NSFW)

Candy Hard

I finally got a taste of the complete Hard Candy album by Madonna, out today, and it'll take some getting used to. I was (and still am) completely enamored by her Confessions on a Dance Floor album - it's one of the best ones she's done - and this new album, I feel, is a radical departure from it. And sometimes radical transitions just sound awkward. I haven't been wow'ed by any of the songs yet ... maybe it'll grow on me.
I still heart Madonna.
Addendum: I just read the Washington Post review of Hard Candy. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks some of the stuff on the album sounds "awkward."
It works best when Madonna isn't trying to act like she's down with the hip-hop kids, which just sounds weird. In "Heartbeat," for instance, over a stuttering beat accented by a cowbell, we find Madonna quasi-rapping the line "see my booty get down" over and over as Pharrell eggs her on: "A little lower, baby." Awk-ward! (Source)
I recommend: 4 Minutes, Give It 2 Me, Miles Away - and the remixes are fun (only available on the deluxe album version.

Ugly Betty: Episode 2.15, Burning Questions (Preview #1) (Source)
I still love this kid. Christian Siriano (the hot tranny mess from Season 4 of Project Runway) makes an appearance on this week's Ugly Betty. He's totally milking it for all its worth, and I totally approve. He's fantastic!

I'm so happy this Bravo is bringing back one of my fave shows, Flipping Out this summer. I absolutely love Jeff Lewis and all his obsessive craziness! I can't wait.

Walt

Walt Whitman, around 1862 (Source)
The American Experience on PBS showed a fantastic documentary about Walt Whitman tonight that completely moved me. It made me realize that I need to get myself a copy of Leaves of Grass for my summer reading list. You will be able to watch the complete episode in its entirety online starting April 15. The documentary did a fantastic job with the (homo)erotics of his poetry. His eyes draw you in, don't they? I highly recommend the documentary!
One of my favorite poems by Whitman:
To a Stranger
| PASSING stranger! you do not know how longingly I look upon you, | |
| You must be he I was seeking, or she I was seeking, (it comes to me, as of a dream,) | |
| I have somewhere surely lived a life of joy with you, | |
| All is recall’d as we flit by each other, fluid, affectionate, chaste, matured, | |
| You grew up with me, were a boy with me, or a girl with me, | 5 |
| I ate with you, and slept with you—your body has become not yours only, nor left my body mine only, | |
| You give me the pleasure of your eyes, face, flesh, as we pass—you take of my beard, breast, hands, in return, | |
| I am not to speak to you—I am to think of you when I sit alone, or wake at night alone, | |
| I am to wait—I do not doubt I am to meet you again, | |
| I am to see to it that I do not lose you. |

Let the Beat Control You Now
Tilly & The Wall, Beat Control Music Video (Source)
I am absolutely lovin' Tilly and the Wall! I love the technicolor freshness of their video for "Beat Control." The tune is super retro, infectious, fun, and rather sprampy, if I do say. It'll be hard to shake "the beat" out of my head. Tilly and the Wall are getting lots of rightly-deserved love lately - I mean, really, how can you not love them? How exciting - the group is soon to come out with a full-length album. From the press release:
Tilly and the Wall are ready to begin making noise about their upcoming full length set to be released June 17th on Team Love records. The album, produced by the acclaimed Mike Mogis, has no title. It could be called O because its cover is just that: an oval-shaped frame for the artwork that will go inside of it. O will have limited edition runs of handmade prints available by different artists that will act as the record’s cover, giving the band’s fans a unique piece of art for both their album and their walls.
Take a listen to one of the tracks of off O:

Happy 500th post everyone! What's more fitting than to feature the song "Ur So Gay" by Kate Perry. Because I am. Apparently Madonna hearts this song too. Enjoy!

I caught the whole interview with Ellen this morning. While I'm not switching teams (I'm still for Obama), I hope that Obama was listening to Hilary's position on gay rights.

Watch The Clock
4 Minutes, Madonna ft. Justin Timberlake (Source)
Does Madonna age? Initially I thought the song was pretty repetitive and mindless (and maybe I still think that ... hmmm), but it really has a way of infecting you, doesn't it? If anything, it's a pretty interesting video. What am I saying - I love Madonna! She brings out my inner-gay.
This vid might be pulled, so enjoy while you can.

Ruggers Gone Wild

Sandbach Rugby Boys Bonding
Here's an extended version of the Sandbach Rugby Team gone drunk and wild (same team I posted about before). There's lots of pints being hand (330 total!) - lots of "straight" boys going "gay" - and obviously a lot of NSFW moments. Be forewarned ... this is so classic, I love it.
